The world right now has been turned upside down and inside out by current events.....the Corona Virus.
How can we celebrate our planned marriage and still comply with social distancing regulations imposed upon us by health experts and our governing bodies?
The first idea that springs to mind is to elope!
Here’s a few things to consider .............
Where to and why?
Who would officiate?
Do we require witnesses and if so how many? Can we choose our own?
And what about the wording of our ceremony? Can we have any input?
Firstly, the venue or location for an eloping wedding ceremony is largely up to you.
You may choose a registry office or Town Hall where a government appointed celebrant or officiant normally conducts marriage
You may decide to return to a place because of nostalgic reasons......the place where your partner proposed or where you first kissed.
Right now an overseas destination would not be your ideal choice. If this is what you’d prefer then you may have to postpone your wedding date.
You require a legally appointed celebrant or officiant to marry you.....to complete the paperwork,.
If you choose a nostalgic location a celebrant who resides in the area would be helpful. Or you could ask a celebrant if they would be happy to travel.
As a celebrant I did that on countless occasions.....and happily so.
As with any other legal marriage you require two witnesses.
You could ask friends or two family members to accompany you or ask your celebrant to provide them.
The wording of your wedding ceremony whether you elope or have a much larger gathering is again up to you. So many couples rely on the celebrant to say the right words but I encourage you to have as much input as possible.
Write your own vows and tailor make words as in poetry, readings and also include some music to suit you both even if it’s just your favourite or signature song.
